As the cornerstone location, Flint Valley has the most history and has experienced the most change over the years. Because of Flint Valley’s successful programs for the past 65 years, we are able to make smarter decisions about the work needed at both sites. Currently there are two important legacy structures at this location that are needing attention to make them more functional and extend their service life.

Westwoods Renovation

This cabin complex is now one of the oldest on this site and needs mostly cosmetic updates inside and out to improve and extend its service life.There are also needed updates to the parking and grading adjacent to the structure to correct drainage issues. Renovation will also allow for some utilities relocation in order to create more recreation space in the front of the buildings.

Heck House & Picnic Area Renovation

We will renovate this historic structure at the center of the camp, which functions as the medical lodge during summer camp. This is an opportunity to optimize the existing structure without rebuilding.

The gravel picnic area adjacent to the house and waterfront recreation area is heavily used. Updating surfaces, improving grading, and adding seating will provide both functional and sustainable improvements.

Infrastructure Needs

The state recently advised that our water tanks need to be updated. This will also require some other improvements related to the water system. In recent years, the flow of Flint Creek has changed and has caused notable erosion of the south bank that borders Flint Field, the covered sports court and the pickleball courts. This is threatening the deck behind the covered court and must be mitigated and reinforced to prevent structural damage.

Following the acquisition of Frontier Cove, we began the master planning process and are excited to reboot those future efforts. This site is the most efficient when it comes to expansion due to its infrastructure and the number of buildings that can be repurposed. As good as it is, it is overdue some needed improvements to better fit our model of summer camp and retreats.

Visitors’ Center Renovation to New Offices

We will relocate the offices to the front of camp to make them more accessible. This reduces the need to drive through camp and improves check in for retreats, general access and security. This also increases office space so more staff can office together in one building.

Old Office to Medical Lodge Conversion

With the move of the office to the front of the site, the old office will be converted to the Medical Lodge so the current one can be repurposed for cabin space. The square footage of this building is better scaled to the seasonal needs and allows us to leverage existing equipment from the previous location.

Parking, Landscaping, & Ballfield Construction

As an extension of the work being done to renovate the Visitors’ Center into our new offices, measures will also be taken to redirect traffic, control drainage and landscape the adjacent areas around the parking lot to complement the new Ballfield and connected activity areas. Having an activities field that is immediately adjacent to camp is a major asset for camp programming that has been missing since we acquired Frontier Cove 5 years ago. Outdoor activities are a very important aspect of camping that creates a safe space for social relationships to be built and can lead to meaningful conversations later. We have been using a space in the horse pasture at the front of camp, but that is very inconvenient for camp and groups using the site (as well as the horses!). Creating a Ballfield at the front of camp softens the entry to camp, restores greenspace, makes it more appealing and eliminates unneeded parking.

Medical Lodge to 64-Bed Cabin Conversion

Converting the current Medical Lodge into a 4-room cabin takes advantage of the large footprint and the existing infrastructure of the building. This conversion will add 64 beds without building a new structure. It will also allow us to take another cabin offline for renovation in Phase 2 without impacting available capacity.

Each year we award over $650,000 in camper scholarships to families who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford sending their child to camp. As part of the Generations Campaign we are raising $2,000,000 for the Mission 19:14 Camper Scholarships Fund, which would cover nearly three years worth of scholarships.
